Overview
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file (YAML frontmatter plus instructions) and optional scripts and resources that an agent loads only when a task calls for it. This repository is where that format comes from: it holds the Agent Skills specification, a template to start your own, and example skills ranging from creative work (art, design) to technical tasks such as web-app testing and MCP server generation. It can be added directly as a Claude Code plugin marketplace, and the same skills work in Claude.ai and the Claude API.
It's the reference point for anyone writing their own skills or evaluating what the format can do. Note the licensing split: most skills are Apache-2.0, but the document skills (docx, pdf, pptx, xlsx) are source-available reference code rather than open source.
