Overview
Expo is an open-source platform for building universal native apps for Android, iOS, and the web from a single React and JavaScript codebase. This repository contains the core open-source pieces: the Expo SDK (a curated set of libraries for native device APIs), a Modules API for writing custom native modules, the Expo Go app for quickly previewing projects on a real device, a CLI, and Expo Router for file-based navigation.
Expo Application Services (EAS) is a separate, hosted platform built on top of these open-source tools that handles building, submitting, and updating apps for teams that don't want to manage their own native build infrastructure - it's optional, not required to use the open-source SDK and CLI.
It's a good fit for teams that want to target iOS, Android, and web from one React codebase without hand-configuring native Xcode/Android Studio projects for everyday app development.
