Typesense

Fast, typo-tolerant open source search engine positioned as an easier-to-run alternative to Elasticsearch.

Overview

Typesense is a search engine built in C++ for fast, typo-tolerant full-text search, with built-in vector search for combining keyword and semantic (embedding-based) queries in the same index. It's designed to be simple to operate: a single binary, sane defaults, and a REST API, rather than a large distributed system that needs its own operations expertise to run well.

Core features include faceting, filtering, sorting, geosearch, synonyms, and curation rules, plus official client libraries for several languages and a managed Typesense Cloud offering for teams that don't want to self-host. The project positions itself explicitly as a simpler alternative to Elasticsearch and to closed-source hosted search APIs.

Typesense is a fit for teams that want instant, relevant search (site search, product search, in-app search) without taking on the operational complexity of a full Elasticsearch/OpenSearch cluster, and that may also want vector/hybrid search in the same system.

Why it's in this catalog

Catalog rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

Real technical differentiation (built-in vector/hybrid search, single-binary ops model) but occupies similar positioning to Meilisearch already in the catalog, so a good rather than essential addition.
