Wagtail

Django-based, open-source content management system focused on editor experience, with a headless content API for decoupled frontends.

Overview

Wagtail is an open-source content management system built on Django, focused on giving content editors a fast, attractive authoring interface while giving developers precise control over front-end design and page structure. It scales from a single Raspberry Pi to multi-datacenter deployments handling millions of pages and thousands of editors.

Content is modeled with StreamField, which lets editors build flexible page layouts from structured content blocks without losing that structure to free-form HTML. Wagtail also exposes a Content API for teams that want to run it headless, with a separately built frontend consuming content over the API instead of using Wagtail's own page templates, and it includes integrated search backed by Elasticsearch or PostgreSQL search.

Wagtail is a fit for teams on the Python/Django stack who want a CMS with strong editor UX and the option to run either traditional server-rendered pages or a headless content API - filling a gap for teams that don't want a JavaScript-stack CMS.
